I am noticing that the Read the Docs status badge on my project repository is failing to load properly and is instead displaying the message: rate limited by upstream service.

Is there a known workaround or configuration fix to resolve this issue?

Perhaps they blocked us, or started enforcing significantly lower rate limits on their endpoints.

We could reach out to their support, but we're currently scrapping their own homegrown badges to render ours, which is not a great pattern. They'll probably redirect us to using their documented API instead: https://docs.readthedocs.com/platform/stable/api/v3.html

If someone wants to take a look into this and have a stab at migrating the service to use the official API, contributions would be welcome!
